Connoisseurs Choice is one of the most easily recognised ranges from the independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. This range was launched back in the 1960s, a period where most malts were used in blends, so this was quite an unusual move for the company. The range has proved to be a hit for over 35 years.

The Glenlochy distillery in Fort William, at the foot of Ben Nevis, was founded following the whisky boom of the 19th century.

It went through a number of owners until in 1992,when the buildings were put up for sale and subsequently were acquired by West Coast Inns. The new owners built a restaurant and hotel on the site. To this day some of the original features remain; most noticeable is the rather imposing pagoda roof.
