Chichibu 2009 Single Cask #635 A Decade as Number One
Lot number: 065-1565
Winning bid: £240
From its Mizunara wash backs and small stills with steep lyne arms to the fact that the mashman uses a wooden paddle to stir the mash, Chichibu is a hands-on distillery with quality as an intrinsic focus. With ground now broken on a blending room, and an off-site cooperage, Ichiro Akuto's distillery, formed from the ashes of his grandfather's Hanyu distillery, is one of the finest producers in Japan.
Most of the fans of Japanese whisky knows about Number One Drinks Company, who bought most of the infamous Karuizawa stock. Well, they bottle some other fantastic whiskies too, and now they are celebrating the fact that this has been going on for a decade.
