Lot number: 065-3052

Winning bid: £340

Released in 2003 after Bruichladdich had been investigated by the American Defense Threat Reduction Agency in connection with making weapons of mass destruction.

During the Iraq War, barges loaded with copper stills and distilling equipment from the former Inverleven Distillery at Dumbarton, had been spotted passing the naval base at Faslane on the Clyde (the home of Britain's nuclear submarines) en route to Bruichladdich.

Once the CIA had been reassured that this equipment would not be used for making weapons - and, with their usual great eye for a story, tipped off the world's media, - Bruichladdich WMD was released: ‘Whisky of Mass Distinction'!

46% ABV / 70cl

Bottle Number: 232 / 440
