The oldest distillery on Islay, Bowmore has been described as the Grande Dame of the island. It still has its own floor maltings which make up about 30% of its requirements. Its No. 1 vaults are the oldest maturation warehouse in Scotland and the only one below sea level.
Bowmore released three bottlings for the 2015 Feis Ile and threw a bit of curve ball with this one. This is Bowmore's first foray into the world of virgin oak joining its stable mates Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch.
Bottled at cask strength, there were 700 bottles available from the Saturday, with 300 bottles held back for the Bowmore day on the Wednesday the 27th of May.
