The oldest distillery on Islay, Bowmore has been described as the Grande Dame of the island. It still has its own floor maltings which make up about 30% of its requirements. Its No. 1 vaults are the oldest maturation warehouse in Scotland and the only one below sea level.
This was the first Feis Ile that Bowmore sold one of its two festival bottles on the first day of the festival. As you can imagine it sold all 750 bottles in 3 days, leaving no bottles left for its official open day!
Never before have you seen so many grown men and women burst into tears upon hearing such sad news...
