The Rare Malts are a series of Diageo cask-strength releases, designed to show off some of the lesser known whiskies in its empire. Now discontinued they are much sought after by collectors. All bottlings are cask strength, and un-chill filtered.
Hillside (also known as Glenesk, Glen Esk, Hillside, Highland Esk, North Esk and Montrose) used to be a flax-spinning mill and was originally named the Highland Esk Distillery.
It was established by Septimus Parsonage & Co and James Isles (Dundee wine merchants).
Except for the maltings, the buildings of Hillside / Glenesk were demolished in 1996.
