At the southern extremity of the Graves wine region (itself part of the huge Bordeaux appellation) lies the picturesque commune of Sauternes, home to the world's greatest sweet wines. Within that commune, only one Chateau has achieved Premier Cru Supérieur status - Chateau d'Yquem. The 1967 vintage was generally regarded as a classic, and was the first produced with legendary viticulturist Alexandre de Lur-Saluces at the helm.
