The Rare Malts are a series of Diageo cask-strength releases, designed to show off some of the lesser known whiskies in its empire. Now discontinued they are much sought after by collectors. All bottlings are cask strength, and un-chill filtered.
Founded in 1897, the Coleburn distillery has always produced whisky for blending and never had a focus on the spirit as a single malt.
Mothballed in 1985, there were plans to create a 'Whisky Hotel' but plans seem to have stalled as currently the warehouses are being used by Aceo and its independent bottler Murray McDavid to store its whisky was well as that of its clients.
