Surely there are few locations more evocative than the shores of Lochindaal, an area positively steeped in rich Scottish folklore. It's no wonder then that Bowmore has a whiff of magic about it (or perhaps that's just the whisky). The oldest distillery on Islay, Bowmore still retains its own floor maltings, and while they can no longer meet all of the busy distillery's requirements, they still contribute a third of the malt used in every mash.

Just because something is old, doesn't mean it's old-fashioned, and Bowmore's eco friendly heat recovery system not only cuts down on those pesky bills, it also heats the town swimming pool! You all know the legend of the Devil in the church by now. Just in case you missed it it:

Legend has it that the Devil once visited the church in Bowmore. If you have ever seen it, you’ll know that the church is circular, built that way (so it’s said) so there would be no corner in which the Devil could hide. One day the local congregation spotted the Devil and chased him down through the village, into the gates of Bowmore Distillery. Here, the warehousemen were filling casks and loading them aboard the paddle steamer, The Maid of Islay. Gates and doors locked tight shut, every inch of the distillery was searched, but to no avail. As legend goes, the devil escaped in a cask of Bowmore bound for the mainland.

With the first release selling out like hot cakes, this release looks like it will go the same way. The devilishly dark side of the Bowmore is here in this edition too, thanks to first fill sherry casks being used to mature the whisky.
