Benromach 1999 Single Cask #706 to Commemorate 2007/08 Round the World Yacht Race
Lot number: 083-1889
Winning bid: £55
Gordon & MacPhail have experienced such success with Benromach since they took over the practically derelict distillery in 1993, that in 2016 nine new washbacks were installed, increasing the potential capacity of the distillery to seven hundred thousand litres per annum. While this might sound like small potatoes compared to some of the Speyside titans, it shows remarkable confidence in the rejuvenated brand, since it's reintroduction to the market in 2004.
With an interesting signature style that emulates the lightly peated Speysiders of the 1950s and 60s, combined with quality cask management and focus on single malt production, Benromach's future is looking a lot more stable than its somewhat choppy past.
This bottling is to commemorate the 2007/2008 round the world yacht race which was hosted at the start by Liverpool. This single malt is bottled at 53%ABV which is also Liverpool's latitudinal coordinates.
