Lot number: 083-2803

Winning bid: £2,100

The Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher. Now owned by the Edrington Group, The Macallan prides itself on its Six Pillars, which include its curiously small stills, very narrow 'cut' of new make spirit and exceptional cask management. It is the most sought after whisky for collectors, regularly setting records at auctions all round the world.

The Gallery

Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900) was one of the most famous artists of the Hudson River School. Olana, his house overlooking the Catskill mountains and river Hudson in upstate New York, was one of his finest creations. In the opulent setting of this gallery space in Olana, we sense the intensity, sensuality and dark indulgence of The Macallan’s Spanish sherry oak lineage as our leading man and his leading lady share their very own, intimate Macallan moment.
