Tomatin distillery was founded in 1897 and spent most of its life producing whisky for the blending industry. In the 1970s it was Scotland's biggest producer of single malt whisky. In 1986 Tomatin distillery became the first fully Japanese-owned Scottish distillery when Takara Shuzo joined forces with trading company Okura.

From the Tomatin website, 'The second phase of the cycle is exhibited through maturation of this edition in heavily charred oak casks which, having been fired before previous use, were stripped then re-fired stimulating new, fresh vanilla flavours.'

This bottling forms part of their Five Virtues Series.
