Michael Collins Single Malt Irish Whiskey
Lot number: 087-1313
Winning bid: £140
Cooley Distillery - originally owned by the famous John Teeling who sold it to Beam Inc. (later Beam Suntory) in 2011 - is nestled in the foothills of the Cooley Mountains in Co. Louth, with access to clean, pure water from the Slieve na gCloc river that runs down from the mountain and right by the distillery. Both patent and pot stills are used at Cooley allowing it to produce both malt and grain whiskey, reinvigorating old famous brands such as Kilbeggan and Tyrconnell while also allowing it to create new brands such as Connemara Peated Single Malt and Greenore Single Grain Irish whiskey.
When Beam Suntory bought Cooley, the supply of Michael Collins stopped, however, the brand has been acquired by Sazerac Company Inc.
Michael Collins - affectionately known as 'The Big Fellow' - spearheaded Ireland's campaign for independence and helped to design the treaty that formed the country as we know it today. His nickname is reflected in this rather tall bottle.
40% ABV / 70cl
