There are several factors that make the Springbank distillery unique. It is the oldest distillery in Scotland owned by the same family, 100% of the production process is carried out on one site, and it remains the largest private employer in Campbeltown employing over 60 people.
The company produced these very limited bottlings after they had been labelled (by a fellow distiller) as being odd for suspending production for a while in 2008. "An odd decision from a very odd bunch of people", ran the quote. The distillery then ran a competition asking Springbank fans what they thought ODD might stand for. The winner came up with Original, Distinct, Defiant, the words which appear on every label. Signed by Frank McHardy.
