Lot number: 092-2737

Winning bid: £95

Established in 1918 as a single estate distillery in Trinidad and Tobago, Caroni owned and self-supplied its own sugar cane crop and operating at near full capacity until 1993. Unfortunately, due to industry consolidation, the distillery closed in 2002 and was almost lost to history when Luca Gargano from Italy happened upon the boarded up distillery in 2004. After learning about its sad fate and that the warehouse was still full of barrels, Luca spent the next few years ensuring the barrels were sold and bottled so that we can enjoy this fantastic - and now very collectable - rum today.

This bottle is to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Royal Marines: 'The Royal Marines are committed to protecting and promoting the nation's security prosperity and reputation. They are pivotal to the defence of the nation, it's people and interest. This anniversary year, marks three-and-a-half centuries of unbroken service'.
