An amazing whisky and an amazing story. The SS Wallachia, a huge steamship, sank in the Firth of Clyde in September 1895, after having been rammed in the bows by a Norwegian steamer.

She had been heading for Trinidad laden with general cargo, including several cases of whisky.

She had been quietly lying under 34 metres of water since then but sport divers rediscovered her and brought several bottles of this whisky back to the open air.

This particular bottle was salvaged by A.S.W. Diving Charter during a dive on 19th May 1989 and was the only one of this size - approximately half bottle - recovered. The top lead seal reads, 'Robert Brown Scotch Whisky, 17 Hope Street, Glasgow' and 'Same as supplied to H.R.H. Prince of Wales'.

The lot comes with a letter of authenticity written by diving director Anthony Wass.

This is a fabulous piece of merchant navy and whisky history, but we are making no claims as to the drinkability of the bottle!

No ABV or volume stated.

Please note capsule is quite loose.

Please examine all images of the lot, any packaging and labels carefully and satisfy yourself as to their condition before making a bid.
