Lot number: 096-05489

Winning bid: £300

Established in 1780 by John Jameson, the sprawling Bow Street Distillery in the heart of Dublin was described as "a city within a city", boasting an onsite Cooperage, saw mill and copper smith.

Unfortunately, due to a downturn in the fortunes of the Irish whiskey industry, brought about in part by American Prohibition and the rising popularity of blended Scotch, Jameson were forced to join forces with their rivals, John Power & Son and the Cork Distillery Company to form the "Irish Distiller Group". Consolidating production at the ultra modern Midleton distillery in County Cork allowed the group to weather the storm, but production at Jameson ceased in 1971 and the the old Bow Street Distillery now serves only as a visitor centre and museum.

For this first vintage, fortified port pipe casks were used for maturing one of the pot still whiskies imparting a glorious fruit rich character. The combination of the oldest and rarest parcels of whiskey by the Jameson whiskey Masters of Distillation, Blending and Maturation result in a whiskey with depth, complexity and a supremely lavish taste.
