Bruichladdich Black Art 1989 22 Year Old Edition 3.1 75cl
Lot number: 101-00949
Winning bid: £210
Mothballed by previous owners Whyte & Mackay, Bruichladdich distillery was revived in the year 2000 by indy bottler Murray McDavid. For a long time the distillery was the black sheep of Islay, on account of producing unpeated whisky in order to meet its owner's blending requirements. Contrary to general expectations though, this also made it a hit with the locals who were presumably sick of the sight of peat.
Since its resurrection, and under the guiding hand of maestro Jim McEwan, Bruichladdich hasn't shied away from experimentation in cask management, quadruple distillation, love-it-or-hate-it presentation, and the introduction of the heavily peated Port Charlotte and (REALLY heavily peated) Octomore ranges. Oh, and they make a mean gin too.
The third release of the very popular Black Art bottling from Bruichladdich. It's rumoured that even cask wizard Jim McEwan can't replicate these tasty drams!
