Lot number: 101-01606

Winning bid: £1,900

The Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher. Now owned by the Edrington Group, The Macallan prides itself on its Six Pillars, which include its curiously small stills, very narrow 'cut' of new make spirit and exceptional cask management. It is the most sought after whisky for collectors, regularly setting records at auctions all round the world.

The sixth entry in Macallan's Masters of Photography series salutes master of visual ambiguity, Steven Klein. Each bottle in the set features an individually number and signed print; part of a sequence of ten that combine to create a bigger picture. Only 1000 bottles were created, meaning there are only 100 complete sets in the world!

The whisky itself is a fusion of old and new, recalling the light smoke from Macallans of old, whilst being notable for the inclusion of Rioja wine casks in the mix. A first for the distillery.

53.5% ABV / 70cl

Print Number: 56
