Winning bid: £300
A straight rye whiskey named after the infamous Sazerac coffee house in New Orleans which played a massive role in creating America's first cocktail, the Sazerac. The cocktail itself is to be dated back to the pre-Civil War era - around the 1850s - and since 2008, has been New Orleans' official cocktail. In 1869, the coffee house was purchased by bartender Thomas H Handy and began to work exclusively with liquor.
This is the 2006 release of Thomas H Handy Sazerac, as part of the Antique Collection by Buffalo Trace. This is Buffalo Trace's nod to Thomas. We approve!
This uncut and unfiltered Straight Rye was Jim Murray's World Whisky of the Year when it was released in 2013 and also scored back to back wins in the World Whiskies Awards for World's Best Rye Whiskey in 2014 & 15.
