North Of Scotland 1970 41 Year Old Finest Whisky
Lot number: 101-03355
Winning bid: £180
The North of Scotland distillery was originally created with the intention of producing malt whisky with an altered Coffey still, but it was soon decided that only grain whisky would be manufactured at the site. To conform with planning permission limitations for the height of the roof, the stills had to be uniquely sunk into pits in the floor of the distillery. During its working life, the distillery was said to be haunted by the ghost of a former brewer with several people claiming to have witnessed the spectre. Founded in 1958, it was closed after only two decades of production in 1980 and the silent buildings are now used as bonded warehousing for Diageo.
