Compass Box are the brilliant blending company that has brought us ''Spice Tree'', ''Peat Monster'' and "Hedonism" as part of their Signature Range. In their other series - the Limited Range - the like to produce unique releases with a bit of a twist such as "Circus"; a vatting of two blended malts, a blended grain and Benrinnes. Compass Box was founded by John Glaser and the company is known for its shenanigans and highly experimental whisky projects.
This is the banned version of Compass Box's The Spice Tree. The Scotch Whisky Association (the other SWA) took exception to their use of new oak staves as "inner staves", and stated that because it had never been done before in regards to Whisky and that they would not allow it. So this is the banned version of The Spice Tree and it is rather rare.
The controversial aging of this whisky was 100% first-fill Bourbon barrels and first-fill, re-charred American oak hogsheads for the primary maturation. A portion of the whisky went through a secondary maturation on new (virgin) French Sessile oak, heavily toasted.
Bottled: 2005
Cask Type: First Fill Bourbon & Re-charred American Oak Hogsheads. As well as the banned French Sessile Oak
46% ABV / 70cl
