Lot number: 104-06216

Winning bid: £25

Originally a joint venture between whisky giants Seagram, Chivas and Kirin, full control was assumed by Kirin in 2002. Focusing on blends for the domestic market there are few single malt or single grain releases. Located in Gotemba in the foothills of Mount Fuji, the distillery is equipped with a varied range of equipment, pot stills sit along side kettles and column and - as Kirin owns Four Roses - bourbon casks dominate the maturation process. Whisky from this distillery is released under two names: Fuji Gotemba and Fuji Sanroku.

A Japanese blend, whose "spreading aroma" is the pride of the Kirin Distillery. Around 10% of the malt content is a 20 year old single malt.

Fuji Sanroku or "The base of Mount Fuji" gives a smokey / roasted aspect that quickly flees and gives way to a grain smoothness-chocolate and a sweet , numbing aspect. Respectably vibrant and chewy.

50% ABV / 60cl
