Winning bid: £1,100

Compass Box are the brilliant blending company that has brought us ''Spice Tree'', ''Peat Monster'' and "Hedonism" as part of their Signature Range. In their other series - the Limited Range - the like to produce unique releases with a bit of a twist such as "Circus"; a vatting of two blended malts, a blended grain and Benrinnes. Compass Box was founded by John Glaser and the company is known for its shenanigans and highly experimental whisky projects.

As is common with Compass Box whiskies, there is a story behind the blend. The General is a small release blended whisky with all the pedigree you'd imagine John Glaser and his clever team would give as well as being natural colour and non chill filtered.

Two parcels of whisky are in this one blend, made up of whiskies which had been blended at a young age and then left in casks for a very long marriage time. We know that one of the parcels was 33 years old, the other an undisclosed age. With a bit of Compass Box magic the two were blended together to produce The General. John Glaser describes the whisky as having an "antique character lovers of old whiskies will seek out".
