Lot number: 104-06831

Winning bid: £140

This heavily peated whisky from Bruichladdich is generally peated to 40ppm and is distilled in the same tall stills resulting in a spirit that has both power and elegance. Created to commemorate the Lochindaal distillery, originally called Port Charlotte, which closed in 1929, it was the first spirit distilled by the Murray McDavid team in 2001.

A festival bottling and political statement rolled into one, the 2017 Feis Ile bottling from Bruichladdich professes to being a "pioneering campaign for transparency in whisky". With a mission statement like that, there's obviously no messing about when it comes to what's in the bottle.

Using 100% Scottish barley, and fully matured on Islay, this heavily peated expression has been crafted from twelve casks comprising different combinations of maturation and "ACEing" in Bourbon, Sherry, Sauternes and Claret wood. The exact recipe is available on request from the distillery.
