Lot number: 104-07747

Winning bid: £200

Given the success and cult-like fan base that Ardbeg has recently enjoyed, it is almost impossible to imagine that the distillery was closed, on and off, for 15 years until it was purchased by Glenmorangie. Sitting on the southern coastline, the current distillery was founded in 1815, the original having been destroyed by excise men. The Ardbeg spirit still is fitted with a purifier which many believe accounts for its fruity, zesty character.

The name comes from the small hill loch that forms the fulcrum between Loch Uigeadail and Charlie's Dam at Ardbeg Distillery. But you knew that ...

Sadly now discontinued due to exhausted stocks, 'the Beist' was an extremely popular Ardbeg, with assertive and powerful peatiness and a lovely honeyed edge, and it's pronounced 'Arry nam Baysht'.
