Glenugie - based in Peterhead - was the most easterly distillery in Scotland until its closure in 1983 when it was converted into a brewery. The distillery changed hands numerous times during its lifetime and the vast majority of its output was used in blends like Long John with very little bottled as a single malt; however, it did once have a reputation as one of the best distilleries in the north of Scotland. The Glenugie brand name is now owned by Chivas Brothers.
Only the second official bottling of whisky from closed distillery Glenugie in recent times, following the previous 32 year entry with this 1980 vintage 30 Year Old. The distillery closed in 1983 and has since been demolished, and bottlings in general are quite rare.
