Pinhook takes its name from the term for buying a very young racehorse at a cheap price with the idea of rearing it to a high standard and later selling it for a higher price. It is this theme of horse racing that continues throughout their branding with a horseshoe as their logo; and who would blame them with Kentucky being the home of US horse racing. Each year, Pinhook offers a new release of bourbons and rye whiskies representing the barrels they consider the finest much like releasing a trained young thoroughbred, hence why they name their whiskies after promising horses.
