Diplomatico's distillery lies at the foot of the Andes Mountains in Venezuela and opened in 1959. It has an alternative name of "Botucal" - from Botuka meaning "green hill" - in countries where the brand was already registered. This is also the name of one of the farms where it not only grows part of the sugar cane it uses in the production of Diplomatico, but they also raise buffalo, horses and ostriches.
The most luxurious of Diplomatico's standard range, the Reserva Exclusiva is blended from 80% pot-still rums and 20% light rums, which have been aged for up to 12 years.
