Lot number: 109-02538

Winning bid: £140

Founded by John Thomson in 1896, Knockando distillery owns the sole rights to tap the Cardnach spring before it reaches the Spey. In 1904, the distillery was purchased by London gin giants, W&A Gilbey, who utilised Knockando’s pale, golden coloured malt in their signature blend, J&B.

Loosely translated from the Gaelic for ‘little black hill’, Knockando’s distillery, which is simply named after the Moray town it is located in, is now best known for producing Diageo’s fifth best selling malt in France and Spain. These light, Speyside whiskies quirkily declare both the vintage and the age on their bottling.

Bottled to commemorate the visit of Alistair Allen to Drummuir Castle on 26th November 2002
