Lot number: 109-04699

Winning bid: £95

Gordon & MacPhail have experienced such success with Benromach since they took over the practically derelict distillery in 1993, that in 2016 nine new washbacks were installed, increasing the potential capacity of the distillery to seven hundred thousand litres per annum. While this might sound like small potatoes compared to some of the Speyside titans, it shows remarkable confidence in the rejuvenated brand, since it's reintroduction to the market in 2004.

With an interesting signature style that emulates the lightly peated Speysiders of the 1950s and 60s, combined with quality cask management and focus on single malt production, Benromach's future is looking a lot more stable than its somewhat choppy past.

Bottled to mark the 100 year anniversary of the distillery, this limited edition expression has been created from stocks laid down prior to the distillery's mothballing, and subsequent acquisition by Gordon & MacPhail. The whisky spent its final two years maturing in some seriously vintage Sherry casks dating from 1886.
