Lot number: 110-04655
Winning bid: £25
Girvan distillery was built in the early 1960s by famous whisky blenders William Grant & Sons after a strange spat with DCL saw the latter choosing to withdraw their grain supply to the former due to differences in commercial tastes. As previous generations of the Grant family have done, the company chose to simply build a new grain distillery for their own uses and thus the Girvan site was erected on the coast of the Clyde. Today it is home to the Hendrick's gin plant as well.
