Lot number: 110-05377

Winning bid: £70

History suggests that the origins of Rutherford & Company go all the way back to the 18th century 'Kindly Mrs Rutherford's' tavern in Edinburgh where Rabbie Burns himself was a regular and the owners were the ancestors of Sir Walter Scott. After opening several more pubs, the business of independent bottling was established in 1834, though initially the tastes were for fine wines and cognac. In the 1860s, Rutherford's started creating their own blended whiskies but the company - choosing to stay true to the Scottish market - enjoyed the limited success of local wholesale, but are still widely recognised by their ceramic jugs and decanters depicting various illustrations.

This decanter was created by Rutherford's to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Rolls Royce. Only 100 decanters were produced.
