Lot number: 321558

Winning bid: £860

The second of Macallan's Masters of Photography series avoids the controversies of the first, with a special 20yo sherried whisky and a book of photos by Albert Watson on the journey of the sherry cask.

Bottled at 43%ABV / 70cl.

On the 1st of December 2010, the limited edition of 1000 bottles of The Macallan Sherry Oak 20 years old became available for purchase throughout the world.

Each had a specially commissioned label by Watson and a unique set of 10 portfolio prints. The Albert Watson Prints are missing from this lot.

Watson takes you on a visual journey of Macallan's exceptional wood, beginning in the forests of Northern Spain, via Jerez in Southern Spain where it is crafted into casks and seasoned with Spanish sherry, and ending at The Macallan's Spiritual Home in Speyside to receive the New Make Spirit to mature into The Macallan.

Born in Scotland, Albert Watson is one of the world's most successful photographers of the past four decades.

In recognition of his work, Albert was named one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time by industry bible, Photo District News. In 2010 he was awarded the ultimate accolade - the Centenary Medal from the Royal Photographic Society.

Photographer Rankin was commissioned by The Macallan to create a limited edition series of photographs for the first year of the landmark commission series, The Macallan Masters of Photography. 1000 bottles were released, each of which had the original picture taken by Rankin. The book has all 1000 pictures.

The photographs were shot at the Easter Elchies House on The Macallan
Estate, and together form an essay depicting one summer.

The album contains nude portraits of Tuuli, Rankin's muse. She's pictured draped over barrels, at wash backs and stills, generally doing the sort of stuff that would scare the distillery cat! Others focus on the flora and fauna of the estate.
