Lot number: 390907

Winning bid: £1,150

Almost all the bottles that were released on the feis ile 2014 is in this lot.

Ardbeg:

This Ardbeg has whisky that has been aged in special casks that have had their heads removed and replaced by ones that have been heat treated with a secret toasting regime. These new heads are designed to create a particular flavour profile which emphasises the notes of coffee and mocha.

This spirit is then blended with 'classic' Ardbeg from 1st and 2nd fill Bourbon barrels.

The whisky has been named for the signature colours on the Ardbeg bottle which happen to be the same as the ones on the Brazilian Flag where the World Cup kicks off on the 12th of June 2014.

49.9%ABV / 70cl

Bowmore:

After the success of the bottle release in 2013 Bowmore decided to go for the same tactics for the 2014 festival. They staggered the release of the 1000 bottles, so 700 were released on the Saturday (first day of festival) and the last 300 bottles were put on sale on their "official" open day.

Interestedly the bag that accompanies these bottles claims the whisky has been partially aged in French wine barriques, although the bottle itself proclaims that the whisky has been bourbon cask matured.

Bottled: 16.05.14

Cask Type: Bourbon Casks, Predominately First Fill

56.1%ABV / 70cl

Bottle Number: 511 of 1000

Bunnahabhain:

Bunnahabhain's 2014 Islay Fesitval offering, the Dràm An Striùreadair - meaning The Helmsman's Dram. This is an odd Bunna as it is heavily peated and then finished in a wine cask. Interesting and challenging stuff!

Bottled: 09.05.2014

Age: 10 years old

Cask Type: Bourbon casks then finished in a Marsala wine cask

56.7%ABV / 70cl

Bottle Number: 376 of 632

Caol Ila:

The 2014 Feis Ile expression from Caol Ila is rather special, as it has been selected by the new distillery manager David Wood. This is also the first time he has his name on an official distillery bottle.

Distilled: 2002

Kilchoman:

This years Feis Ile bottling from Kilchoman. The whisky spent its first years in first-fill bourbon casks and with a final 3 month maturation in a Fino sherry butt. Some people claim this is the tastiest bottle from Kilchoman. Could it also be the best festival bottle this year?

Georgie Crawford Manager of Lagavulin distillery said “The Festival gets stronger and better every year, and all of us at Lagavulin and Caol Ila Distilleries hope that this year’s special Feis Ile bottlings, will add to the delight of those visitors who come to celebrate Islay’s great whiskies and whisky-making traditions with us during the Feis Ile"

Was she right about this year's bottling adding to the merriment of the Feis Ile? Well judging by this year's reviews it would seem so!

51.4%ABV / 70cl

Octomore:

Combining two of Bruichladdich's greatest experiments of the last few years here we have a quadruple distilled, as per X4, Octomore, the world's peatiest whisky.

The number of bottles released, is in honour of the Scottish traveller Martin Martin who started his discovery of the Western Isles of Scotland in 1695. During his travels he recorded the dangers of spirit that was distilled four times.

Distilled: 18.02.2007

Bottled:Age: 7 years old

Cask Type: Oloroso Sherry Casks

69.5%ABV / 70cl

Bottle Number: 67 / 1695

We've heard that 5 bottles were smashed at the Bruichladdich Open Day so the number of bottles available is less than 1,695... And rumour has it that Bruichladdich will never do another quadruple distilled Octomore again as they almost blew the distillery roof off!!
