in the 1440 Prince Louis XI sought to unseat his father and take the throne for himself. This lead to an open rebellion that ended badly. But as lucky as some people are Louis' father forgave him. And again Louis rebelled. But this time by marrying without the royal consent and fled to Burgundy. Befriending the Duke, Philip the good.. He gained strong allies but also made enemy with the rulers only son, Charles the bold. The feud started the Burgundian Wars. Charles were defeated 1477 at the battle of Nancy. As a symbol of French dominance Louis' troops began the construction of Château De Beaune, a massive stone fortress. Now a days the fortress passageways are used for wine storage. And this Bouchard & Fils have been stored in one of the fortress many passageways.
