One of two bottles in the 42nd auction here at SWA, this is a special bottle of Krug. These bottles come from an era before Krug started printing the vintage of their champagnes on the bottle labels. However, a little bit of homework suggests that this bottle dates from the 1960s, we think possibly somewhere between 1961 - 1964, but our standard caveat applies here, we like to drink Champagne but are not experts!

The House of Krug was founded by Joseph Krug in 1843 after several years spent as an accounts clerk with Champagne Jacquesson. Today it is generally regarded as the most prestigious of all the Grands Marques, and only produces prestige Cuvees, a commitment which it often uses to market and support its position. The consistent focus on quality brought the attention LVMH who recently decided to add Krug Champage to their luxury brand portfolio.
