Tun 1401 is a very special vatting from Balvenie’s Warehouse 24, one of the oldest areas of the distillery grounds and home to some of the most special casks in Speyside. It was conceived by the Balvenie’s malt master David Stewart, who was so inspired by the magical atmosphere inside Warehouse 24, that he created Tun 1401 to capture the essence of it in a bottle.

There are 5 batches of Tun 1401, each with unique characteristics and ingredients. They were made under the guidance of David Stewart, who hand selected every cask and monitored each batch as they “married” over a three month period.

For Batch 4 of The Balvenie Tun 1401, Stewart filled the tun with The Balvenie matured in three sherry butts (1970, 1971 and 1973) and seven traditional American oak barrels (1966, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1978, 1980 and 1990), to create a single malt characterised by honey, mellow spices and oak.

Hand-bottled at The Balvenie Distillery in Speyside, each is presented in a gift tube which includes explanatory copy and tasting notes. Just 2,500 bottles of The Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 4 were made available exclusively in travel retail outlets.

Batch 4 was made for travel retail.
