The Last Vatted Grain

Along with Compass Box's Last Vatted Malt whisky this is a tribute to the days before the 2009 Scotch Whisky regulations were enacted - the final day being November 22nd 2011, the release date of these whiskies.

From that day whiskies such as this have to be called Blended Grain Scotch Whisky, rather than Vatted Grains as they were known before, and this is Compass Box's last bottling named in the old style - a mix of 42yo Invergordon, 29yo Carsebridge, 20yo Port Dundas and 14yo Cameron Bridge.

The Last Vatted Malt

A whisky commemorating the end of an era in Whisky history - the enactment of the Scotch Whisky Regulations of 2009. After the 22nd of November 2011 whiskies can no longer be labelled as Vatted Malts, the new term being the (debatably) confusing Blended Malt Whisky. This bottling, a cask strength vatting of 35 year old Speyside whisky and 26 year old Islay whisky, is Compass Box's tribute.

And here is founder John Glaser's take on it: This special limited edition bottling is a valedictory farewell to the Vatted Malt, one delivered with honour and pride. This whisky is made from a marriage of fine, old single malt whiskies from Islay and Speyside distilleries. It combines intense aromas and flavours of dried fruits and maltiness underscored by a subtle, sweet smokiness, all robed in the revealing signs of whiskies of antiquity.
