Founded in 1895 Gordon & MacPhail have been bottling single malt whiskies for 120 years and by the 1950s they held the largest range of bottled malt whiskies in the world. This family run business have bottled the oldest single malt whisky in the world as well as being distillers themselves after buying Benromach in 1993.
Closed in 1983, the distillery was taken over by Historic Scotland and is now a museum of whisky distilling. However since early 2013 there have been rumors of studies being conducted to investigate whether production could be resumed again.
