In 1956 Karuizawa was founded, unbelievably the distillery was actually a vineyard! The aim was to create premium whisky, which according to the fans fo this distillery it did. But sadly all good things must come to an end, and Karuizawa's fate was sealed when production was stopped in 2000.
After much negotiating, the remaining stocks were bought by Number One Drinks Company. These releases are now probably more well known than those of the original owners - Mercian Wine Company. This bottle is one of those bottlings. The whisky inside this gorgeous bottle is as old as 31 years old and some as young as 15 years old. And not only that but they have also used both peated and unpeated whisky for this release. Not something you see everyday, unless you count here at SWA!
