In 1956 Karuizawa was founded, unbelievably the distillery was actually a vineyard! The aim was to create premium whisky, which according to the fans of this distillery it did. But sadly all good things must come to an end, and Karuizawa's fate was sealed when production was stopped in 2000.
After much negotiating, the remaining stocks were bought by Number One Drinks Company. These releases are now probably more well known than those of the original owners - Mercian Wine Company.
This particular bottle is an 8 year old whisky from Mercian's day making this is a very rare bottling originally intended for the Japanese market.
