Bunnahabhain 2005 5 Year Old Murray McDavid
Lot number: 064-0989
Winning bid: £75
Murray McDavid was formed in 1996 by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin and Gordon Wright and was named after Reynier's grandparents Harriet Murray and Jock McDavid.
It quickly became known for its irreverent tasting notes, edgy Gaelic logo, 'Clachan a Choin' and later for their ACEing process of finishing whisky in wine casks. In 2013 it was sold to Aceo Limited. Bunnahabhain started production in 1883 and currently the majority of the spirit it produces is lightly peated, although since 2012 around 20% of the out put has been peated at 35ppm. Sheltered from the Atlantic this lighter Islay whisky has an important role in Cutty Sark as well as Black Bottle, while its standing as a single malt has increased since they dropped colouring, chill filtering and increased the bottling strength of their core range to 46.3%ABV.
