Winning bid: £140.00
Lot number: 064-3943

Given the success and cult like fan base that Ardbeg has recently enjoyed it is almost impossible to imagine that the distillery was closed, on and off, for 15 years until it was purchased by Glenmorangie. Sitting on the southern coast line the current distillery was founded in 1815, the original was destroyed by excise men. The Ardbeg spirit still is fitted with a purifier which many believe accounts for its fruity, zesty character.

This is the first release from Ardbeg as part of its 200th anniversary celebrations and sees the distillery bottle its "past, present and future."

With this distillery exclusive release, Dr Bill Lumsden takes inspiration from the differing styles of whisky his predecessors have created over the last 200 years.

The booklet briefly recounts the history of Ardbeg, from its founding by John McDougall to its mothballed and derelict period, and contains a pledge that "Ardbeg will never be automated or simulated."
