German born, Simon Brown (Simon Balthasar Braun) was an experienced seafarer and tradesman who shipped various spirits, wine and tea around the world. Through his trade in Scotland he managed to take over Scott & Baxter Wine & Spirits Merchants in Edinburgh in 1857.
