Lot number: 065-0702

Winning bid: £125

Connoisseurs Choice is one of the most easily recognised ranges from the independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. This range was launched back in the 1960s, a period where most malts were used in blends so this was quite an unusual move for the company. The range has proved to be a hit for over 35 years.

Starting life as a brewery, Lochside was converted into a distillery 200 years later and both grain and malt whiskies were distilled on site. The distillery's output was mostly used for the blended whisky Sandy McNab's and then for Spanish blended whisky when DYC took over in the 1970s. In 1992 the Distillery was mothballed and the buildings were demolished in 2005.
