Winning bid: £350

Bruichladdich was established in 1881 and has changed hands many times over the years. Owned by French spirit group Remy Martin Bruichladdich distills, matures and bottles its whisky on site as well as using barley from the surrounding farms. Since its renaissance in 2001 its range of whiskies are bottled without added colour or chill filtration and at 46% ABV and above. It is a pioneer of cask management, peating levels and presentation.

A long-aged vintage Bruichladdich released in 2003 shortly after the distillery's buyout. This was a smallish batch of 4200 bottles vatted from bourbon casks, described by Jim Murray as 'fabulously complex'.
