Situated on the Northern island of Hokkaido, the Yoichi distillery was bulit by Masataka Takersuru in what he thought was the ideal site for a whisky distillery. The stills are direct fired, something that has been abandoned by all but a handful of Scottish distilleries, and they describe their whisky as a, "rich, peaty and masculine malt." .
