Sold in America during prohibition for medical purposes, due to the Surgeon General refusing to believe it could be drunk for pleasure, Laphroaig was awarded a Royal Warrant by Prince Charles in 1994. The biggest-selling single malt from Islay, Laphroaig is one of the last distilleries using its own floor maltings.
Laphroaig celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2015 by releasing a 32-year-old malt. In addition, only 490 cases (approximately 5880 bottles) were released worldwide, making it an instant collector's item.
