Dalwhinnie is one of the highest distilleries in Scotland at 1164 feet above sea level. The name Dalwhinnie is derived from Gaelic word Dail-coinneeamh, which means meeting place, referring to the meeting of ancient cattle drovers' routes through the mountains.
The location for the distillery was chosen as there was a vast supply of clear, Highland water and lots of peat for fire! Due to the location of the distillery it is one of Scotland’s highest and coldest distilleries. It also doubles as a Met Office weather station! The distillery has a visitor centre and attracts around 50,000 people a year.
